This application note discusses how to implement and execute custom instructions on the Bluespec MCUX, a low footprint RISC-V processor, which supports custom instruction extensions. This application note also provides a case study of how to implement a custom instruction using a world example (leading zero counter, complex swap) and provides an analysis of the improvements in execution provided by executing the custom instruction compared to using the standard RISC-V instruction set.
